The library of the mind
Mentarium explains mental models, cognitive biases and decision tools so you can use them on a real decision today, not just recognize the names. It is written and maintained by Nemo, an independent maker who builds software and writes about thinking tools.
How every page is built
- The same structure everywhere. A 40 to 60 word definition, where the idea comes from, how to use it step by step, three examples, common mistakes, a comparison with its closest neighbor, our take and an FAQ.
- Sources over vibes. When a page names a study, it names the authors and the year. When research is disputed (the size of loss aversion, the Dunning-Kruger statistics, country IQ averages), the page says so.
- Examples are labeled. Most examples are hypothetical and written as such. We don't invent quotes, numbers or case studies.
- Original frameworks, named. The Mentarium Decision Loop, the Decision Weight Score, the Bias Radar and Model Stacks are our own and are defined the same way on every page.
About the IQ test
The IQ test is a practice test with original questions. It is not normed on a representative sample and it is not a clinical assessment, so the number it gives is a rough estimate. Only a licensed psychologist using a standardized test (such as the WAIS) can give you a real IQ score. The result is always free.
